So here it is… the website for the newly diagnosed metaplastic breast cancer patient, MetaplasticBC.com. It really been a labor of love created by women who have been affected by this disease. Our goals are simple:
- Summarized the general information about breast cancer and link you to reputable sites where you can find more detail.
- Summarize what is known about metaplastic breast cancer and it’s sub-types and link you to the sources. Sometimes there is nothing we can do but link you to medical articles. There are not enough studies or writings on metaplastic breast cancer written in plain English but we will try to link you to articles that we have found useful in our research.
- Offer you the latest news on breast cancer research. Some of this information is just for general knowledge but some of it will be related to issues linked to metapastic breast cancers. For example articles on PARP inhibitors, claudin-low tumors, research into stem cells or the P53 gene.
- Create a community where an open discussion about this disease can take place. For too long metaplastic patients have been treated with therapies meant for other forms of breast cancer. It’s time to start moving past the one-size fits all treatment plan and into individualized care. The forums are not up at launch but they will be soon.
We are not medical professionals but we are a group of women who have spent hours researching our condition and understand the need to get all of this information into one easy to read site. We hope this is the site where those discussions can begin.
